Homo Neanderthals

In our biology, we are going to discuss and determine what hominins the characters are from the movie called "The Croods" which is a prehistoric Pliocene era.

According to the movie, I believe that they're Homo neanderthals. Their face is not vertical as humans,  they don't have prognathism, they have a rounded shape chin, have larger jaw and molar teeth than humans. I noticed that their body structure is similar to humans and they are also more muscular than modern humans. As we can see in the movie, they are able to walk upright due to their foramen magnum and have an S-shaped spine like modern humans.

Furthermore, we can see that they have the capability to hunt animals. This suggests that they have the intelligence to be able to plan hunts and have some communication. They have also been developed to control fire, for warmth, cooking and protection from predators. Lastly, they wore clothes that are made from animal fur, showing evidence that they are homo neanderthals.

The mysterious Homo Species (Homo Naledi)

Homo Naledi

This article talks about the information of Homo Naledi such as when they discovered it, how the homo survived thousands of years ago and their characteristics.

Homo Naledi was first discovered in the DInadeli Chamber of the Rising Star Cave in South Africa. They have found that there are over 1550 specimens of 15 homo individuals from this site. This Homo lived between 335,000 and 256,000 years ago. Homo Naledi has a mixture of characteristics of modern humans and apes (Australopithecus). They have modern human characteristics such as the hands, feet and the size of their brain and they have apes characteristics such as the pelvis and shoulder. Homo Naledi's height is approximately 4ft 9 (1.44m) and their weight estimates range from 88-123lbs (39.7-55.8kg). That time, it may be that Homo Naledi lived in a different environment from where the other homo species lived in because their teeth provide clues about their diet and environment and it shows that their teeth in fact are different from the other Homo species that lived around the same time.

One thing that can relieve my stress

One thing that can relieve my stress is to get enough more time to sleep. Since I have to do my practice, house chores, and assessments, I could ask my parents if I could do my assessments from 9pm to 10pm instead of doing house chores. Doing house chores instead of doing my assessments, cannot give me more enough time to sleep because I don't have more time to do my school works and sleep. I believe that this is the only way that I can relieve my stress.

Gary Paulsen: River

  Gary Paulsen: The river

What I learn in the story is that Derek got struck by a lightning. Brian is trying hard what to do to survive Derek in the deep Forest. Brian was thinking that the Plane will arrive in one week or nine days, which it not good for Derek because he wouldn't survive that long. Brian was having a hard time taking care of Derek because Derek is unable to eat and drink. Brian learned that when someone has a coma, they could hear while they're asleep. Brian also learned that when a person has a coma their body can still function. Bryan found a map inside the briefcase and found the place where people are around. Brian has no choice but to build a raft and go to the people to send help.

What I like about this novel is that I learned so much about survival and what I don't like about this novel is that Brian is having a hard to with Derek.

It's a boy who is desperate to want something that he can't have or he wants to win in the game of cards. Furthermore, I think he is also sad and angry.

ESOL- essay

What three items would be best to have if you were lost in the mountains in New Zealand in winter? The three items that would be the best, in my opinion, would be plastic sheets, 10 litres of oil/petrol, and an axe. I believe that these items are very useful if I were in the mountains in New Zealand.

The item plastic sheet is very advantageous in my opinion. With the item plastic sheet, I can use it for water when it rains. Collecting water is very important because all humans can survive water for 7 days without food. It always rains in the mountains so it could be very useful for survival. Also, I could also use it for shelter when it’s cold so that I could warm myself up inside. Plastic sheets are very useful when collecting water for survival.

The second item that I picked is 10 litre of petrol/petrol. I believe that this item is very useful because you can use it as a fire. Also, it can be used for giving signals because of the smoke. With the smoke, some people will see it even if it is far away. This is why petrol is very useful to give signals for survival.

The last item that I picked is an axe. The reason why the axe is very advantageous is that you can hunt animals for food. Aside from the food, you can also cut some woods and build a shelter with the woods that you cut. Axe can be a lifesaver from the predator animals as well such as hawks, wild boars and wild cats. The axe is very advantageous when it comes to hunting food, building a shelter and saving yourself from dangerous animals.

If you are in the mountains, I would recommend you to bring these items just in case you are lost.
